Delaware to thank Martin O'Malley...
At least they should. While Maryland's gamblers may eventually be able to forgo their semi-annual trips to our neighboring state, other Marylanders may increase their trips.
We went to Ocean City recently, which is a bit quiet during the off-season on the weekends. During the week, it can even be quieter. Couldn't find Thrasher's Fries, or much else, open on the boardwalk. Even getting something to eat on the mainland/West Ocean City after 10pm seemed like a chore.
We decided to take a drive North to Delaware the next day. There were plenty of businesses open, and they were closer to the shore without crossing a (soon-to-be-closed for renovations) Rt. 50 bridge like in OC.
We spent money for food, including getting some Nic-a-boli's to eat in Rehoboth, and a case for use at home (over 50 bucks). We went to the outlets, and spent over 200 tax-free smackers! Had a nice ride along the shore.
We didn't gamble, but if we wanted to we could have done so now, not years from now.
The good people of Delaware should really write Martin a thank-you note. He's sending more people there to spend their money (assuming MOM has left them with any). Some may decide to stay.
