Loyalty Pledge... For Ordinary Voters !?!?!?
With all the controversy over proposed loyalty promises in local Central Committees and the Maryland State GOP, Virginia may have gone too far. Evidently there primary voters will have to sign a promise to support the Presidential candidate of the party, even if their candidate loses. So, a staunch pro-choicer that votes for Rudy will be strong-armed to support Huckabee if the later wins? Ron Paul would pick-up reluctant support from McCain or Romney people if he got a win? It seems destined to alienate people. While it may seem like a no-brainer that Central Committee people or other Republican office-holders should not actively support Dems or others*, doesn't this go way out of line? Here's the story from CNS/Cybercast News Service...
Now this may have come about because Virginia lets people decide at the last minute to vote in either the Dem or Repub primary, a dumb scenario that resulted in Dems voting for weak Republicans, but it still stinks. Is that where we are heading?
Note this line: <<a nonpartisan election official dismissed as just "a piece of paper.">>
Yeah, and so is the Constitution, the Declatration of Independence, the Bible... you name it!
So sad that people have to violate their conscience to vote, but do people care about integrity any more?
* While it is nobody's business what you do in the voting booth, actively promoting someone from another party,
even if they are "old friends" (Are you listening, Republican leaders that are guilty of this _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
and _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _??) is inexcusable. True old friends will understand that you can't post their yard sign,
bumper sticker, or attend their event, if you are a leader from the other party. Is this why some feel loyalty
promises are needed?
